In modern usage in placenames, the i is always short. It is a fair guess that the orignal was short. As vowel lengths were never written, no one will ever know, but I am using short is for consistency both internal and with placename evidence. Hogweard 21:42, 21 Ēastermōnaþ 2010 (UTC)
