Coding issueː what has gone wrong?

[adihtan fruman]

Since yesterday, something has change in the Mediawiki coding or something behind angː. It is not affecting ay other wiki as far as I can see. I have found several oddities so far as I type, and they all prevent the effective typing of wiki codeː ̈

  1. An asterisk does not appear but typing it puts an umlaut or trema over the following letter;
  2. A colon comes out as a similar but different character (ː) which of course does not have the same effect in wiki coding. (You can do 'Alt-58')
  3. Typing a single open or close square bracket works, but typing two as in [[ turns them into a curly single quote - ʽ or ʼ .
  4. Tildes cannot be typed either (to sign this I have had to type the four tilde thing in Word and paste it in). Likewise plus sign, percentage sign etc and possible others I have not come across.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Hogweard (motung) 09:39, 23 Eastermonað 2022 (UTC)Reply

It turned out to be just me, and the daftest little thing: The wee icon at the top right of the edit screen was set to 'International phonetic alphabet'. I changed it to 'Use native keyboard', and it has been back to normal! Hogweard (motung) 16:08, 30 Eastermonað 2022 (UTC)Reply
can you clarify how to fix this, @Hogweard, as it is happening to me on en Wikipedia everywhere and I can't figure out your solution. I'm Ogress (motung) 14:10, 18 Mædmonað 2023 (UTC)
Hmm... I cannot now reproduce what happened. I said in my comment last year that there was an icon at the top right of the edit screen set to 'International phonetic alphabet', but I cannot now see that option, on ang: nor on en:. If you go through all the multitude of options, you might find something. I cannot see where it is on mine though. Hogweard (motung) 17:50, 18 Mædmonað 2023 (UTC)
