It is too much of a push to translate 'hurricane' through three or four intermediate languages to a presumed Skræling source and then substitute the name of Norse god for that of a Carib one. 'Typhoon' is the same concept. That word is said to derive from a known Greek word, 'τυφον', which is not glossed in any OE source as far as I can see.
