Wes þu ‎Genelingo hal!

We should be all right with the location maps in Cyþþubox scir: they are all set up and linked to the traditional counties (the same since Æþelstan's days for the most part) and their locator maps. Local administrative areas borrowing the same names can be referenced in the body of the article if needed.

It is good t see more learned hands joining in the project. Hogweard (motung) 19:59, 21 Blotmonað 2021 (UTC)Reply

Create a page for Albania-United Kingdom relations on Old English Wiki

[adihtan fruman]

@Genelingo56 Hi dear Genelingo56!

I am from Albania and I have a request. I have seen that you edit the Old English Wiki, where you have made most of the edits during the last 30 days and you are one of the most active editors on this Wiki.

I want to ask you please can you create a page for Albania-United Kingdom relations: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albania–United_Kingdom_relations on Old English Wiki with short content. To include the major details of the article on the content you will write on Old English Wiki.

The reason I need this page is that Old English is the ancestor of English and this page has to do with the relations of United Kingdom, where Old English was spoken, with Albania, where I am from.

I would thank you so much if you will create it. Then add the page to Wikidata.

Hello GennVekk,
I am currently working on a few pages at present. I have received your request and I will certainly create a page for Albania-United Kingdom relations within the next few days. To my knowledge, I am uncertain if there are currently any other pages for country relations, so this might be the first one.

Slavs and Balts

[adihtan fruman]

In King Alfred's Orosius Orosius] we have:

Be norþeastan Maroara, sindon Dalamentsan, ⁊ be eastan Dalamantsan sindon Horigti, ⁊ be norþan Dalamentsan sindon Surpe, ⁊ be westan him Sysyle. Be norþan Horoti is Mægþa land, ⁊ be norþan Mægþa londe Sermende oþ þa beorgan Riffen.

...

Norðdene habbað be norþan him þone ilcan sæs earm þe mon hæt Ostsæ, ⁊ be eastan him sindon Osti þa leode, ⁊ Afrede be suþan. Osti habbað be norþan him þone ilcan sæs earm ⁊ WinedasBurgendan, ⁊ be suþan him sindon Hæfeldan. Burgendan habbað þone sæs earm be westan him ⁊ Sweon be norþan, ⁊ be eastan him sint Sermende, ⁊ be suþan him Surfe. Sweon habbað be suþan him þone sæs earm Osti ⁊ be eastan him Sermende, ⁊ be norþan him ofer þa westenne is Cwenland, ⁊ be westnorþan him sindon Scridefinne ⁊ be westan Norþmenn.

(And not a dot above any letter of them....)

The Osti appear to be the Baltic peoples (as opposed to Estonians - a later passage has Estland). 'Winedas' from the various uses appears to be the Slavs (the Latin name was Veneti, and the German word 'Wend'), so for example 'Wineda lond þe mon hætt Sysyle' (the Slavs' land that is called Silesia). B&T translates the term as "the Wends". The Surfe may be Serbs or (from that geographical position) Sorbs. The Sorbs today claim to be ancestral Serbs, but they might just be grabbing at an identity. Hello Hogweard,
Many thanks for getting back in touch. The information is very useful for denoting translations for various European groups (e.g. Slavs, Croat, Serbs etc).
Many thanks, Genelingo56 (motung) 02:28, 2 Blotmonað 2025 (UTC)Reply

Update request

[adihtan fruman]

Hello, Genelingo56.

Can you rename Andrēas Æþeling, Þēoden Eoforwīce into the Anglo-Saxon version of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor?

After all his titles, honours and styles were stripped of him on 30 October 2025, he became plain (Mr.) Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Here is the official statement from Buckingham Palace:

Hello IP: ~2025-30815-81.
These changes have been implemented.
Many thanks. Genelingo56 (talk) 16:15, 1 Blotmonað 2025 (UTC) Genelingo56 (motung) 02:21, 2 Blotmonað 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello.

The surname of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has no hyphen. It needs to be removed. His official name is in that source without a hyphen. It needs to be renamed to Andrēas Battesmunt Windlesōra.

Hello Kurcke.
We accept requests, not demands. If there is an error, please report it to an editor, but I would ask you not tell someone to do something without kindly asking. I hope that consideration is shown to others in the future.
