I'm not very fluent in Old English, but I understand quite a lot of it as I'm rather familiar with the Limburgish variant of Old German. Limburgish still has got many cognates with Old English, while many of this have been lost in other Germanic languages and some sounds are quite the same, like bītan (bi:tan, I guess) and biete (bi:tɐ) or gōd (go:d) and good (ɣo:d̥) or some combinations that both languages have like bōchūs (bo:khu:s) and bookhoes (bo:khu:s) But most people on the modern English wikipedia still think that it looks more like Dutch (bɛɪtə, χut, biblijo:'t:ek) and therefore Limburgish is said to be a dialect...
