Quite a few possibilities here.

Essentially, the translations used by the different Germanic languages fall into three categories:

1) Hoofdpagina (this is used by Frisian and Dutch)  
2) Hoofdsiet (this is used by Low German, with cognate translations in German, Nynorsk, Bokmål, and Swedish)  
3) Forsíða (this is used by Icelandic, with cognates used by Faeroese and Danish)

In OE this would give us:

1) Héafodpagina (héafod, 'head', 'chief', 'principal' + a Latin word for 'page', whether anglicized or not) 
2) Héafodsíde (héafod, 'head', 'chief', 'principal' + síde, 'side') 
3) Foresíde (fore, 'before', 'preliminary', 'fore-'/'pre-' + síde, 'side')

I don't think we want to use pagina, so if we exclude that one, this gives a choice between héafod and fore for the first element, and it gives us síde for the second.

However, I don't think síde was ever used to mean 'page' in OE. If we use it that way, we'll be making a conscious decision to give it a new meaning. I came up with an alternative, which is léaf ('leaf', 'piece of paper'). Obviously, we wouldn't be using this in quite the OE sense (since the AS didn't have computers), but it's much closer.

I also thought of a third alternative for those who don't want héafod or fore, namely forma, 'first', as an adjective.

This gives us these options (this is assuming you accept my exclusion of pagina, and excluding further options that other people might come up with):

(a) Héafodsíde 
(b) Foresíde 
(c) Forma Síde 
(d) Héafodléaf 
(e) Foreléaf 
(f) Forma léaf 

If forced to choose I think I might express a preference for (d), but don't feel strongly on this. --Rícaheard 11:46, 8 ÆGé 2005 (UTC)
