[adihtan fruman]As far as I have found, there he one reference to Croats in an authentic OE text. In Alfred's Orosius we read "Be norþeastan Maroara, sindon Dalamentsan, ⁊ be eastan Dalamantsan sindon Horigti, ⁊ be norþan Dalamentsan sindon Surpe, ⁊ be westan him Sysyle. Be norþan Horoti is Mægþa land"
The name 'Hotigti' or 'Horoti' appears to refer to the 'White Croats' who at that time lived by this description in Galicia (Poland / Ukraine). The notes in my edition give "the Chovati or Croats" - the old name 'Chovati' is equivalent to the modern Croat 'Hrvatski'.
On a separate tack, there is nothing wrong with country names ending '-ia'. It is a Latin usage found widely in authentic texts where the Latin name was simply accepted. Hogweard (motung) 06:46, 10 Æfterra Liða 2025 (UTC)
