Translation of Republic and Republican[adiht fruman]

Old English used cynewīse for republic (respublica), along with "the state" and "commonwealth." The question is, should that be applied when translating "republic" or perhaps calque something like "folcesþing," or follow Icelandic and use "lēodweald" (lýðveldi) and some derivation to describe a republican and a Republican. --James (talk) 02:31, 8 Hrēþmōnaþ 2013 (UTC)

It need not be a hard and fast thing (e.g. to the exclusion of other words), although obviously there is need to single one word for the name of the page to host the article about such a topic, and any other related page names. The two words most commonly in use at the moment are "cynewīse" and "folcrīce". So long as "cynewīse" truly did embody the idea of "democratic nation", I would favour that to use in article names, since it is authentic.   Ƿes hāl!    02:56, 8 Hrēþmōnaþ 2013 (UTC)
